Link building is used to help get customers to your site and it will benefit you in more ways than one.
- It will improve your search engine ranking
- There will be multiple locations around the world wide web where people can click to visit your site
- It will enable you to tell people about your site in multiple locations over the internet
There are several ways you can generate links to your site but not all of them are beneficial. Although you will still get a link it may be from a bad site (a spam site for example). People do not generally visit these sites and the search engines discount them. It is important to ensure you have the correct sites linking to you and the more relevant they are to your site the more beneficial they will be to you. Below is a list of techniques that Infaweb recommend and use on a regular basis.
It is important to note that a lot of websites create vast numbers of links quickly and the search engines see this as spamming. They will discount your site and block it from their listings. You have to make this process organic and natural. All links are manually requested by Infaweb, we do not use software to try and automate this process.
Social Bookmarking
Social Bookmarking has grown in popularity over recent years and is a good way to gain one way deep links to your website pages. When creating bookmarks on these sites you can submit multiple pages from multiple sites giving you a list of favourites.
One main benefit from social bookmarking is other users who find your site useful can bookmark your site giving you another link. This allows users to have quick access to the sites they use and good one way links to the sites in return.
Infaweb offer a submission service to gain one way links. This is to aid with your SEO campaign and we also include these submissions in our monthly packages.
Social Networking
Social networking has gone from strength to strength over the years and is now more popular than ever. It is a great way to get your products to a specialised group of people, to get your products known, to get your name known, to gain some links to your site, to generate potential sales and so on.
We encourage social networking and help our customers optimise their networks to maximize the benefits to help you get your website ranking in the search engines. We can create accounts, submit posts, advise and help develop a good network. We believe our input on this depends on the client and take every case differently offering as much or as little support as needed.
Link Baiting
The most organic and natural ways to get links to your site are:
- People see your site and think it is good. They then go away and put a link on their site to your website.
- People find something useful on your website that they want to show to their visitors so put a link on their website.
- They are a customer, supplier or producer for you and want to show this on their website so they put a link on their site.
What link baiting does is put something on your website to cover one of the first two points. By putting very good content, a useful application, a fun mobile app, free software, free products, discounts etc on your site you will gain very natural links.
You can also give things in exchange for a link back to your site. For example you could give a free mobile app away in exchange for a link back to your website. The key to link baiting is having something available that people really want to use or show people. A good way to do this is by being the first - the first to offer the piece of software to do something useful or the first to tell people how something is done etc.
At Infaweb we offer a service where we can help come up with ideas with you and build anything you require for your website. Please contact us by clicking for some discussion on this topic.
DoFollow Blogs and Forums
DoFollow - when you add a link to your website you are saying I believe this site to be credible, or are you? You are maybe writing an article telling people about bad websites or people not to use so you do not want to tell the search engines that the website is credible. This is where DoFollow and NoFollow come in. If a link has a NoFollow in the code around it then the search engines will not give the website any credibility for the link, and vice versa if it is a DoFollow they will give it the credibility. It is also used when a website has no knowledge about the website it is linking to or no control of the links being put on their website (for example forums). Due to these points it is important when using forums and blogs for search engine optimisation you ensure they are DoFollow links so you get the credibility from the work you are putting in. That said it still gives you a link back to your site for potential customers to see so do not avoid NoFollow sites as they can provide a good stream of valuable traffic.
Article Submissions
There are many web sites on the internet that are set up to display peoples articles with links back to the author's web site. This gives you a platform to put relevant content about products/services your business/website offers and puts links through the article back to your site. The benefit of this is that the user can find your business/site if they want to purchase goods/services related to the article and the search engines get an understanding about what your site does. This gives your site credibility in that area for example if the article is about car manufacturing and your business manufactures cars then the search engine can see details about what car manufacturing is and when someone looks for it in the search engine they can use your site as a listing. By having the link back to your site the search engine will give your site credibility and also rank you better for the keyword/phrase that links back to your site. For example search engine optimisation.
Directory Submissions
Directories are like phone books for web sites. They are websites that have categories and within these categories there are lists of websites with brief descriptions. The advantage to this is people can use them to search for your website in specific areas and the search engine will give you some credibility for the link back to your site. Again it gives the search engine some more information about your site.
Email Marketing Campaigns and Link Requests
You can request links from web site owners via email, phone or letter but the difficulty is convincing them to go and do it. There are a few ways to encourage this; use of functionality, discounts, access to good content and so on. If this is done well you can gain some valuable links to your web site.
