URL File Extensions

Building a new website? Make it future proof and do not display the file extensions. The advantages of not displaying .asp .php .html etc are;

  1. If you ever change from one type to another you never have to redirect the pages or worry about old and new pages
  2. Your URL is shorter so it is better SEO optimised
  3. It is easier for the end user to type in to the address bar
  4. It is easier for someone to create a link to

Canonicalisation

Can you access your site from multiple URL's? Examples; www.mysite.com, mysite.com, www.mysite.com/index.html

This can have an impact on your rankings by splitting links across different home pages rather than just one as well as displaying duplicate content. Use 301 re-directs to clear this up.

Website Content Update

When was the last time you updated your website content? It is good practice to ensure you update your website content regularly with fresh text. Have a bog, news area or a bulleting area on your home page to tell everyone the latest news in your sector.

Video For Search Engine Optimisation

Have you uploaded any videos lately? Help develop your inbound links with quality videos. Upload them to U-Tube or put them directly on your site, gain people's interest and talk about them. The more useful the video the more successful they will be. The main social networking sites are great places to host them due to the size of their user base. Ensure you get a link back to your site and ensure the video is useful.

Duplicate Content Do You Still Have Any?

This has been a no no for a long time but just double check your old pages, the ones you have not used for some years that you optimised a while back and forgot about. Just double check you have not recreated a very similar page or that your keyword pages are not too similar and lastly ensure all your pages have a useful purpose for the end user. Do not create content for the search engine, create it for a human.

Speed Speed Speed

Google's obsession with speed continues as they develop their tools further, but how do your tools hold up in the speed test? Is your site fast, efficient and usable or is it sluggish and slow? Make your site more useable by increasing its processing speed and response time.

Does Your Site Have Anything Worth Linking To?

Natural links are what webmasters aim to achieve and to achieve success in this you need to give people something to link to. What does your site offer? Some ideas: mobile applications, gadgets, online applications, online tools, mobile tools, freebies, great content, detailed papers and quality reviews. The list is endless but the key is quality.

Possible Google Update

Anybody noticed the results for the site: command being very inconsistent today in Google? On most of the sites we manage the site: command has been the same static result since the last major update but looks like things are changing today.

If you have large search engine optimised A-Z directories that you use to generate traffic to your web site then you need to keep track of today's events.

XHTML and Search Engine Optimisation

Q: What is the most important rule to remember when optimising your web site for search engines?

A: MAKE SURE THEY CAN READ IT!

Frames, java script code and magical SEO tricks that a cowboy sold you, just make me cringe. It is an easy rule and you can achieve it by using simple methods for FREE yourself.

Using XHTML is a great way to clean up your web site. Your tags are fully formed and validated, the search engines just come and read your web site without trying to second guess badly formed HTML tags.

That is it!

Using XHTML and CSS you can design good web sites and achieve everything you need to without using java script, frames or a mass of images.

Infaweb win contract to provide technical SEO analysis reports.

infaweb win contract to supply new, up and coming SEO company Web Xposure with technical SEO analysis reports.

Web Xposure have an experienced management team, who between them, have 9 years experience in website optimisation. They decided to step out on their own and form a new company Web Xposure.

The major driving factor behind their decision was quality and passion. "The quality of service being provided by a lot of companies in the optimisation business was appalling" said Rob Burns one of the founding partners.

He went on to say "I have always been disappointed with UK SEO companies claiming that they can provide this service when it is quite obvious that they will fail from the onset, quality of service is the key driving force behind our service and we will deliver"

From its inauguration the company has had a philosophy of high quality one to one service and provides a level of service enviable in the search engine optimisation arena.

Another of the partners Nathan Webster was very happy to explain to us that web site optimisation is a constant learning curve and new ideas and thoughts are coming out everyday. "Ultimately though it's all about genuine enquiries to your website, which will lead to new customers".

Web Xposure are a Website Optimisation company providing a quality driven service for companies wanting to gain a greater exposure on the search engines.
